Determining Types of Glass Vials

Glass vials are of high importance in the pharmaceutical and scientific world. Available in different sizes, colors and shapes; these vials can be used for different purposes like collecting samples in laboratories, storing small quantities of liquid or powder etc.

As far as the types of glass vials are concerned, it can be differentiated on the basis of the type of glass used in the containers. The first type is called as borosilicate glass. This type is amongst the least reactive type and usually all lab glass vials are made from borosilicate glass. In terms of use, the type of vial can be used for alkaline products. But, it is also important to check the pH for the applications the vials are to be used as under certain conditions it may cause the contents to contaminate.

Soda lime glass is another type of glass used in making glass vials. It could be used easily for storing insensitive liquids and dry powder. As compared to plastic vials, experts believe the vials made from soda lime glass are ideal to use for dry heat sterilization.

A lot more options are there that come with distinct features and purposes. However, it is always important to choose the right kind of glass vial for distinct pharmaceutical and lab applications.
